No-Sew Fabric Crafts: DIY Decor Ideas

I like to think we are all talented, not in every area but in at least a few. Sewing is not in my talent wheelhouse.
That doesn’t mean I can’t whip up some really beautiful fabric crafts and home decor though!
While wandering the aisles at Walmart in search of the perfect dish towels to make my no-sew cafe curtains, I stumbled across a gorgeous floral tablecloth. It was only $5 and I loved the soft floral pattern.
As soon as I saw it I knew that I could DIY more than one piece of beautiful decor out of it. So I thought I would share all the things you can make out of a tablecloth plus my favorite simple no-sew craft home decor projects with you.
My Favorite No-Sew Project Supplies
There are a few things that make no-sew projects a lot easier and I thought I would share some of my favorites with you.
No-Sew DIY Home Decor
No-Sew Pillow Cover
Pillow covers can be pretty pricey and I don’t love spending a lot of money on something I know I am gonna swap out with the different seasons. This no-sew pillow cover DIY is perfect for creating beautiful pillow covers out of a wide variety of fabrics.
Start by ironing out the fabric so that it’s smooth and without wrinkles.
Next, cut the fabric down to size, I simply used the dimensions of a pillowcase cover I already had. Here are some standard sizes that might be helpful:
Now it’s time to make the clean folded edges, this is where the no-sew trick comes in. Cut a piece of Heat n Bond adhesive tape the length on the first edge. Apply it sticky side down along the edge and use a hot iron to adhere it.
After it’s on, remove the paper backing and fold the fabric over it.
Use the iron again to adhere the seam together. Follow this step for all four sides.
After all the clean edges are created, fold the cover in half so that it looks more like the size the pillow will be. Adhere the two sides together using the adhesive tape.
Instead of using the adhesive tape on the opening side, we are going to use velcro. Using velcro will make this a true cover that can be removed and washed when necessary.
This Velcro is made for fabric and simply sticks to it. Peel and stick both velcro pieces to the top and bottom of the opening.
Now it’s time to put in the pillow insert, this is how I find out if any of the tape didn’t adhere properly. When that happens I simply add a new small piece of tape and heat it using my hair straightener.
That’s it, a super simple and budget friendly no-sew accent pillow cover!
DIY Lampshade Cover
Anyone else a big fan of cozy accent lighting? If there is a lamp I will always choose it opposed to harsh overhead lighting. I find a lot of really cute lamps at thrift stores and antique markets, but the shade is usually less than desirable…
Instead of replacing the entire lampshade just grab some fabric for this easy DIY.
Start by cutting the fabric to the width of your lampshade plus a little extra.
Use adhesive spray to attach the fabric to the lampshade, rolling the lampshade on top of the fabric is the easiest method. Guide it with your hand as you go, keeping the fabric smooth.
Once you get to the end piece, create a clean edge using adhesive tape. Adhere it with an iron like we did with the pillow cover.
Then use more adhesive spray to attach the edge to the lampshade.
You can cut off the majority of the excess fabric, just be sure to leave enough to adhere to the inside on the lampshade. Use the adhesive spray to attach the excess fabric to the inside of the shade.
How cute is this updated floral lampshade! This little makeover is great because you can use any fabric or pattern you want to completely update the lamp’s look.
No-Sew Table Runner
They didn’t have a table runner in this pattern, only tablecloths. So I simply cut the long tablecloth down to create my own table runner!
I used the same Heat and Bond adhesive tape to create clean edges on all four sides. This is a super simple no-sew project that can elevate any table.
Scrap Fabric Napkins
If you have some scrap fabric hanging around, use it to make these simple fabric napkins.
Cut the scraps into squares and use adhesive tape to create clean edges.
These DIY fabric napkins are perfect for adding color and texture to your tablescape.
Vintage Flag Banner
This sweet little flag banner was the perfect way to use up my scrap fabric and make our toddler some vintage inspired room decor.
DIY Name Sign
I also DIY-ed this super simple canvas name sign for Eli’s room out of fabric, rope, and vinyl.

Large Scale Art
Need to fill a large, bare wall? This DIY large scale art project is a simple and budget friendly way to add character to any space.
The best part is you can use practically any fabric to create beautiful art. I used a shower curtain to make a large floral print originally for this wall.
Then in the fall I swapped it out for this DIY large scale art I made out of a tapestry I found on Amazon.
No-Sew Seat Cushion
All you need to create a no-sew bench cushion is a thin piece of board, foam, fabric, and a staple gun.

Fabric Book Hammock
This is hands down one of the sweetest fabric projects ever. I built this simple book hammock for Eli’s nursery to add a fun pop of color to his space.
Slipcover Chair Cushions
At our last house we had a table and chair set that I loved, well except for the cushions.

Those are just a few of my favorite no-sew DIY projects. Just because you don’t own (or know how to use) a sewing machine doesn’t mean you can’t use fabric to whip up some beautiful home decor.
Someday I would love to learn how to sew, but for now I am happy with these no-sew hacks.
