Welcome back to another episode of what to do when you have champagne taste on a juice box budget…

I like nice things in our home, I think everyone does. The issue is that sometimes the nice things I want aren’t quite in our budget.

That’s the beauty of DIY, you can create the space you want within the budget you have. So when I wanted to swap our wooden kitchen shelves for upgraded marble shelves I knew a DIY version would be in order.

Don’t get me wrong I really liked our wood open shelving and it was one of the first DIY’s I did in our renovated kitchen. Now that we are finished with the kitchen renovation though, I noticed that we have a lot of wood tones we didn’t have in the beginning.

Between the built-in cabinet and DIY wooden hood vent, plus the wood floor color it felt like too many different wood tones for one space.

I have always loved marble shelves in the kitchen, they are classic, timeless, and the perfect solution for breaking up all the wood tones. The only problem is that marble is not a cheap material…

So I came up with a super simple DIY way to get the marble shelf wall look for less than $30!

Marble shelves can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any space. They are versatile and can complement various interior styles, from modern to traditional.

The natural veining and unique patterns of marble can create a visually striking focal point in a room. When incorporating marble shelves into a design, it is important to consider the overall aesthetic of the space and ensure that the shelves harmonize with the existing decor.

The first step in creating beautiful marble shelves is to decide on a color and veining pattern you like. Here are a bunch of my favorite peel and stick marble patterns, that are also budget friendly.

I went with this white marble that had subtle copper colored veining lines running throughout.

There is nothing wrong with the wood shelves we had in the kitchen so I am reusing those boards for this project. If you are starting from scratch, simply decide on how thick you want the shelves and then cut the boards down to the length you need.

Technically you could start wrapping the boards now, but I think it’s a good idea to seal them first to prevent any warping. This is especially important if you are using the marble shelves in the bathroom where there is a lot of humidity.

Next, measure and cut the amount of peel and stick paper to cover one board. When cutting the width measurement make sure to include enough to fold over the sides of the boards.

After you wipe the board off so that it’s clean, un-peel the paper and lay the board on top of it.

Adhere the long and short side pieces first, making sure the peel and stick paper is smooth. Then Adhere the top piece, smoothing out the bubbles as you apply the paper.

I recommend using a gift card or scraper to smooth out the peel and stick. Don’t use anything too sharp or it could damage the paper.

Finally you can install the wall brackets and secure the new marble shelves to them.

Styling Marble Shelves

These DIY marble shelves are exactly what this little pantry nook needed! The marble design adds contrast and character without clashing with the surrounding wood tones.

The best part is you would never know they aren’t real marble shelves. This design looks very natural and the peel and stick has just the right amount of sheen to make them look realistic.

Marble shelves aren’t just for the kitchen though, they would be beautiful in a bathroom, living room, and bedroom too.
