If you are looking for a quick and easy wooden Christmas tree project I have you covered!

My scrap wood pile was staring me down the other day and I know if I let it get too out of hand it will make its way to the bonfire via my husband…

In order to save the precious scrap wood I decided to make some super cute and simple diy wooden Christmas trees.

This wood tree project is perfect if you need to add a little something to your front porch or interior Christmas decor.

Honestly though they would make great hostess or teacher gifts too!

These wooden Christmas tree plans can be used for both 2×4 and 1×4 boards and I made two different sizes.

The best part is that even if you don’t already have the wood, these wooden trees are super budget friendly to make and you only need a few of my favorite WORKPRO® Tools.

Here is the cut list for the small and large wooden trees:

These plans can be used for both 1×4 and 2×4 boards.

Small Wooden Christmas Tree Plans

All the angles are 30 degree perpendicular cuts except the (4) 5-13/16″ cuts which are parallel cuts.

Perpendicular cut means the long point of the cut is on the same side of the board, parallel cuts mean the long points are on opposite sides.

Large Wooden Christmas Tree Plans

All the angles are 30 degree perpendicular cuts except the (4) 8-13/16″ cuts which are parallel cuts.

Cutting the Wooden Christmas Tree Pieces

Start by making all the cuts in the above plans.

For this project I used my new mini cordless circular saw, it is compact and perfect for projects of all sizes.

I set the blade to 30 degrees and made all the cuts.

This circular saw also connects to my shop vac which keeps all the dust to a minimum!

After the cuts are made, piece together the tree to make sure everything fits well and make any necessary adjustments.

Before you actually assemble the Christmas tree, sand all the pieces (I didn’t do this the first time and learned my lesson).

I sanded the wooden pieces with 220 grit sandpaper until all the sides and ends were smooth.

Assembling the Wooden Christmas Trees

Start by assembling the top wooden Christmas tree pieces together.

Use adhesive to secure the smaller piece to the larger top piece and clamp them down onto the work table.

Next add the first set of the middle pieces using adhesive and clamping them to the top pieces.

There should be about 1″ of overlap between the top and middle pieces.

Continue down the tree with the next set of pieces, assembling them the same way.

After the tree structure is assembled, attach the long bottom piece to the inside of the tree.

Clamp the ends of the bottom piece securely to the table.

Finally, attach the smallest stand piece to the bottom, center of the tree.

I did one tree with the angles facing up and one facing down to see which worked better.

Both ways look really cute and the tree is just as stable with each method so that’s really just up to your personal preference.

After all the wooden tree pieces were assembled I made it extra secure by adding wood screws or finishing nails.

For the 2×4 wooden trees I used 2-1/2″ wood screws and for the 1×4 tree I used finishing nails.

Fill the holes in with wood filler and sand smooth once it dries.

Finishing the diy Wooden Christmas Trees

Now that the wooden trees are assembled and sanded you can stain or paint them!

I went with my favorite green color, Rosemary for both trees.

A dark stain would also be perfect if you wanted a more rustic wooden tree look.

After the trees are dry you can add any final touches you want.

I used my hot glue gun to add battery powered Christmas lights to each tree.

Other ideas would be stringing bells, twine, or even adding small ornaments to the trees.
